We are a UN Women WEPs signatory

Bewsys became an official UN Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) signatory in December 2020. We are the sixth organization in Ghana to join this global community. As a member, we are a primary corporate actor committed to gender equality dimensions of the 2030 agenda, at the highest level and within our business practices. We engage with thought leaders in gender equality and women empowerment to enhance our commitment to gender equality at Bewsys. The WEPs provide a framework to help businesses promote gender equality and empower women in the workplace and communities. 

This movement was established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women. As the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are informed by international labour and human rights standards, we pay critical attention to the role we as a business entity play in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. 

Globally, the technology industry does not have a gender-diverse workforce. Recent data suggests that less than 19% of the tech workforce are women. The women who manage to thrive in tech fields have to deal with the gender pay gap, low representation in senior and leadership positions, rigid working hours, and unfavourable policies.  

With the help of the UN WEPs, we at Bewsys can collaboratively work internally and externally to garner capacity and structure to progress the achievement of gender equality within the organisation. This commitment also provides us a verified competitive advantage in doing business with international development organizations and impact investors globally. 

Through our commitment to bridging gender gaps, the lives of our women, their families, and communities will be improved. Currently, we have made strides in promoting a safe and inclusive working environment for women. These include equal pay for equal value, gender-responsive supply chain practices, and zero tolerance against sexual harassment in the workplace. Additionally, some policy changes include flexible working hours and a shift to remote work. Furthermore, we aim to do more in supporting women in the technology industry. 

The WEPs platform offers a continuous journey of engaging, sustaining, and reporting progress in advancing the sustainable development goals related to women. With the help of tools such as the WEPS Gap Analysis Tool, we can measure and monitor our performance on gender equality benchmarks and promote transparency and accountability.
